Benzodiazepines: legal drugs

Anyone who wants to can get drugs legally. Benzodiazepines, although they are socially destructive drugs, are worse than alcohol and tolerance and addiction develop very quickly, general practitioners prescribe them like candy. Benzodiazepines have no prescription or indication restrictions, which in practice means that if you tell your general practitioner: “prescribe me something for sadness” and he prescribes it, everything is legal.
Not only psychiatrists but also general practitioners legally prescribe benzodiazepines, and if a patient does not have depression and it is prescribed anyway, everything is legal and the insurance company even pays for it.
I have also heard from practice about people for whom the attending physician prescribed benzodiazepines for “sadness” and they did not even have depression.
