If they had to admit an unpleasant truth, they would have to admit that they were extremely mistaken, which is a huge burden and huge humiliation for the psyche, that they lost half of their lives, that for half of their lives they put a huge amount of time and energy into religious nonsense completely unnecessarily, and their world would collapse from anxiety and depression, they would have to seek help from doctors to prescribe antidepressants and anxiolytics.
