Gnosticism is a censored and banned topic in such a strongly religious state as Slovakia. We pretend as if no Gnosticism ever existed in history. It is a censored curriculum in schools. There is a serious historical fact that Jesus' teachings were Gnosticism. Jesus never taught any religious church dogmas. A brief definition of Gnosticism: Gnosticism draws its philosophy from Zoroastrianism, it was not a dogmatic religion that imposed its only "correct" and "infallible" opinion on everyone. Gnosticism can be perceived as something very similar to what we call esotericism today. The Gnostics recognized the teachings of Jesus, but strictly rejected the Old Testament. They considered the Old Testament and the violent, hateful god Yahweh to be evil and Satan. In contrast, contemporary Christian churches consider the Old Testament full of hatred and bloodshed to be a revelation of God that cannot be separated from Christianity. Christians still invoke the demonic pagan cult of the god Yahweh to this day.
The dogmatic church form of Christianity practically did not exist until 325, because all Christians were then Gnostics. There were only very small insignificant Jewish sects that had such dogmatic beliefs – the number of adherents of these sects was very small. However, for political reasons, it was worth it for Emperor Constantine to promote a marginal, insignificant, pagan-Jewish form of Christianity – especially the virgin conception of Mary reminded of pagan Greco-Roman mythology (the Greco-Roman gods were also conceived virginally). The supreme head of Christianity at that time was still the emperor himself, not the pope. Christianity was introduced by Emperor Constantine and later emperors throughout the entire Roman Empire (which at that time had its largest empire in its entire history) by force, fear, under the threat of death penalty. This is what happened to an insignificant Jewish sect that claimed the teachings of Jesus, which later became a world religion.
It is admirable that despite the harsh persecution of the Gnostics by the Roman Empire and Christian rulers, the Gnostic form of Christianity spread like a plague: for example, the Gnostic offshoot of the so-called "Manicheism" (the church vulgarly called the Gnostic belief Manichaeism) spread from Great Britain, through all of Europe, through India and all the way to China!!! What enormous power Gnosticism must have had – what a historically significant thing it was – but we strictly censor this part of history and pretend it never existed. Although all Christians are strongly convinced that their faith is the authentic teaching of Jesus Christ, serious scientific academic historical facts say otherwise. Here again faith comes into conflict with science. We have scientific evidence that from 33 to about 700 AD, Gnosticism was a far more widespread teaching, with a far greater number of adherents than Christianity. Moreover, while Christianity was imposed on society by force by state power, Gnosticism spread very quickly and completely voluntarily. And despite severe persecution, genocide, and murder by the Christian political state power, Gnosticism (love of God) persisted in Europe for a very long time: until the 15th century. Although the Catholic Church, Christian church scholars-theologians try to force the public to believe that Gnosticism was just some marginal insignificant sect, the truth is exactly the opposite. The perverted Jewish sect of Christians was considered by the whole society to be the fringe and scum of society ( more here) until this religion was forcibly imposed on society by Emperor Constantine, who saw the enormous potential of using some crazy sect to strengthen his own political power and enslave the people. He bribed the leaders of the Jewish sect of bishops with money, property and power and they obediently served him. There are serious academic historical facts that Emperor Constantine had absolute power over the bishops, so Emperor Constantine himself was essentially the first pope. This is proven, for example, by the fact that the 1st Council of Nicaea (year 325) was headed by Emperor Constantine himself and the pope did not even attend this council. The emperor always had enormous influence and power over the election and appointment of the pope. Later, the institution of the emperor ceased to exist and all the political power of the emperor passed to the pope, who became the most powerful monarch.

I'm getting a little off topic, but it's good to mention these things too.
Christianity is nothing more than a strongly Jewish interpretation of Gnosticism or the teachings of Jesus. Despite the fact that Jesus was a very strong critic of the Jewish religion (even in the Bible itself we find how Jesus argued with the Jewish clergy: the Pharisees), a group of Jews nevertheless declared him to be the expected Messiah and thus founded Christianity.

Why have Gnostics disappeared and do not exist today?
The last significant group of Gnostics in Europe were the Bogomils, and they survived until the 15th century. Many Christians mock the Gnostics, saying that they disappeared because their spirituality was not "of God" and that what is not from God will disappear. But the truth is that the Bogomils disappeared because the Catholic and Orthodox churches slaughtered them like in a slaughterhouse. It was literally a matter of proclamation and great massacres. Now the Catholic Church has a "clear conscience" that it does not have to confront and discuss any "sect" of the Bogomils, but the reality is that the Catholic Church bloodily exterminated the Bogomils. I have heard the opinion that at certain times the Bogomils were much more numerous than the church Christians. Even academic historians would certainly not rule out the truth of such an opinion. Official history certainly does not exclude such an opinion, we have no historical records of how many Bogomils there were and how many church Christians. Furthermore, we must realize that history is written by the victors.
But the Catholic Church places the Bogomils in the position of some small, marginal, insignificant sect that is not even worth dealing with.
