Women are undoubtedly more prone to depression. It is not for nothing that Chinese Taoist philosophy says that a woman is the yin principle, which represents darkness and sadness. A man, on the other hand, is the opposite principle to the female one.
Melatonin
The sleep hormone melatonin is an important natural antidepressant. Melatonin is available over-the-counter in pharmacies. During the day, a person might feel sleepy, so the solution is to take only a very low dose.
Melatonin has, among other things, a strong antioxidant effect (it acts as an effective prevention against cancer).
There are also melatonin-related substances (with a similar molecular structure) that are used as antidepressants. The best antidepressant is Agomelatine. It is the newest type of antidepressant http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Agomelatine It is already used in medical practice in Slovakia. https://www.adcc.sk/web/humanne-lieky/ucinna-latka/agomelatin-7377.html
Other antidepressants have strong side effects that can cause many complications.
The substance 5-methoxytryptamine also occurs naturally in small amounts in the human body. It has not been studied much so far, but everything indicates that it would also be a very effective natural antidepressant http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/5-Methoxytryptamine
Tryptophan is an over-the-counter antidepressant that can also be used by pregnant women. Not only is melatonin synthesized from tryptophan, but, importantly, serotonin is also synthesized from it. This dietary supplement should significantly increase serotonin levels, which is the neurotransmitter of happiness. Unfortunately, the effect may not be that strong because there is also a mechanism for serotonin reuptake in the CNS.

Since phenylalanine is a precursor of dopamine, phenylalanine is also an antidepressant. There are several antidepressant drugs based on dopamine as the principle of their functioning.

Tyrosine also has strong antidepressant effects, as it is a precursor of noradrenaline. The best and most potent psychiatric drug against depression (noradrenaline reuptake inhibitor) works on the principle of noradrenaline. Tyrosine helps very well against depression. http://www.kompava.sk/a/aminokyselina-l-tyrozin-redukcia-telesneho-tuku

The hormone estrogen is a female hormone. If its level is low (after childbirth or during menstruation), then women experience depression. I think that before a woman is prescribed antidepressants, she should try to be prescribed estrogen first – it might help against depression because antidepressants have too strong side effects. The doctor's goal should not only be to normalize estrogen levels but also to slightly increase them as is standard.
It is a great pity that in practice this type of therapy for depression (as far as I know) is not widely used, and doctors are not trained to prescribe it correctly. If a patient asked a doctor to prescribe estrogen to suppress depression, it would probably be unsuccessful in most cases. Only a doctor who is constantly and comprehensively educated in medicine would have no problem prescribing it. However, today at least half of the doctors are dishonest, they educate themselves minimally in medicine and could be quite surprised by such a patient's request and would rather cover their ignorance with an ironic remark to the patient that "what nonsense she is inventing".
Women also have mental problems in the case of removal of the ovaries or uterus, also due to low estrogen levels.
Smoking also causes depression in women because nicotine lowers estrogen levels.
