The positive aspect is that Buspirone, indicated for anxiety, can be combined with antipsychotics that act as an agonist on some subtypes of the serotonin receptor, and it can also be combined with tryptophan. SSRIs and tryptophan cannot be combined. The advantage/disadvantage of Buspirone is that it acts as a strong antagonist on adrenaline alpha-2 receptors (α2A), which can cause severe manic states (for some patients this is a positive, for others a negative). Buspirone can be combined with guanfacine, which acts on α2A in the opposite way, thus blocking these effects.
